Agakhan Sabzaly

A pianist and composer

A pianist and composer whose work moves fluidly between classical music and jazz.

His music resists easy categorisation. Agakhan describes his style as neo-romanticism - drawing on the expressive language of 19th century Romanticism shaped by the freedom of jazz improvisation.

Inspired by the timeless music of Schumann, Brahms and Chopin, he brings the musical spirit of the nineteenth-century Romantic era tradition into a contemporary sound world.

Born in 1994 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, he studied at the Kulyash Baiseitova Republican Specialised Music School for Gifted Children in Almaty before continuing his education at the Kulyash Baiseitova Kazakh National University of Arts (KazNUA) in Astana.

Now based in the Netherlands, he is completing his final year of study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA).
